Apologies again for the long hiatus. I have been super busy. But, I am glad to be back reporting about NY Fashion Week beauty trends. September Fashion Week covering Spring is my favorite because not only do the designers bring it, but so do the show goers. With all the fashion in the front of the house, I still enjoy the chaos and the magic that is the back of the house. Where top hair, makeup and nail professionals come together (in a small cramped space, no less) along with photographers, press, publicists and models to put on a damn good show.
Backstage at Chadwick Belle, the hair was about gritty texture and volume. I believe the exact term Stylist, Paul Meritt, called was “Broken Wheat.” To create the “Broken Wheat” look, he used UNITE styling products and tools. “The look was meant to be quite distressed…with light little wispiness. Then we are using a band, so you have the clean line of the band with the texture inside. It was all about creating a dry texture and NOT a polished look at all,” he described.
The key products for this look were UNITE’s mini crimper, used from the roots about 2″ down to give the base a nice texture. UNITE’S EXPANDA Dust, a texturizing powder, was used on the hair after hair was pulled into a loose ponytail, was tucked and pinned. Hair was then sprayed with UNITE’S Go365 Hairspray that has 3 different nozzles so you can control for light, medium and strong hold mist and it’s 100% vegan. Finally a band was pinned around the head.
